Things That I Accomplished in 2008
- Hiked a glacier. Successfully avoided falling in any crevasses or recreating that scene from fight club.
- Panned for gold. Didn't find any.
- Attempted lawn bowling. Got beaten by septuagenarians.
- Celebrated Christmas in Christchurch, New Zealand.
- Attended The Rugby sevens in a ridiculous Jasmine costume. Successfully smuggled a camelbak of vodka gimlets into the stadium.
- Hiked Kapiti Island. Successfully avoided throwing up on 6 a.m. boat ride.
- Finished my Master's Degree.
- Attended The Golden Sheers.
- Attended The World of Wearable Art show. Was suitably wowed.
- Saw Jemaine from 'Flight of the Conchords' in line behind me at Reading Cinema. Saw him again, later that month, at the food court. Stop following me already!
- Saw a Beirut show in Auckland for The Mister's birthday. Nearly wept when they played an encore in the courtyard, under the stars, standing on picnic tables.
- Went dolphin watching. Successfully stifled the urge to jump in the water and try to ride the dolphins when we finally spotted them.
- Sold all my worldly possessions and moved to another country. Again.
Went to Fiji. - Rode awesome 70 cent, open-sided public busses all over Fiji
- Hiked up a Fijian mountain with a Fijian rugby player we met on the boat.
- Ate a lovo.
- Snorkeled heaps. Only kind of lost it when The Mister saw a shark.
- Spent the night on the floor of a Fijian chief's house.
- Drank so much kava I threw up.
- Held a baby sea turtle.
- Furnished an apartment from scratch, entirely from Craigslist and the Salvation Army. Did not lose my mind in the process.
- Got a wicked rewarding job that I (usually) like, one week after stepping off the plane in St. Paul
- Went to the Spam Museum.
- Hiked the Superior Hiking Trail. No, not all of it.
- Hiked and camped the Badlands. Survived weather so ridiculous I had to lay in the tent to keep it from blowing away while Sam dug a trench around it to divert the rain.
- Was featured on Apartment Therapy. And all I got was a cute, significantly too small T-shirt.
- Swam in Lake Michigan.
- Witnessed, first hand, Obama's announcement of his bid for the presidency at the St. Paul Excel Center. Absolutely wept with the excitement and electricity and magic of the moment
- Avoided arrest by undercover cops at the Republican National Convention. Barely.
- Bought a new (to me) car and avoided a total melt down over the death of my much beloved 1986 Saab.
- Witnessed Garrison Keilor's red running shoes first hand
- Threw several successful dinner parties despite the fact that our kitchen is smaller than our bathroom. Seriously. Significantly smaller.
- Reconnected with friends and family in Minnesota. Felt happy and settled (mostly)
Now you! Readygo! I can't wait to hear about it.
