Movie Quotes That Should Become Memes
Sadako is a twenty-something New York City denizen. She enjoys children and YA lit, making fun of bad movies, and blogging at Dibbly Fresh.
"Veggiesaurus, Lex! Veggiesaurus!" Jurassic Park
Jurassic Park has created its share of memes--"Clever girl" and Newman squealing at shaving cream come to mind. But the above meme has to happen. The meatless diet reigns supreme among hipsters. And admit it: the 5 year old inside of you still loves any dinosaur mention.
"Four for you, Glen Coco. You go, Glen Coco." Mean Girls
So many people get their inspiration from baby names. Think of the little girls named Madison from Splash and the fact that many kids may be named Max from Where the Wild Things Are. To counteract these rather dull names, I personally hope that Glen Coco gets some recognition.
"I'm six five, I weigh 220 pounds, and there are two of me." The Social Network
This one works on so many levels. It has to become the new You're the man now, dog! (And not just because I love using the term "Winklevi so much. Well, OK, partly.)
"Does versatile mean full of eggs?" Charlotte's Web
Oh, Wilbur, I know what it's like to be small, pink, clingy, and behind on my SAT vocab prep. I personally advise using this quote when you want to pretend that, dude, you totally knew that nonplussed meant confused, but you were just pretending you didn't. It's not as well known as some of the others, but for those of us confused by big words, it needs to happen.
"Can you just hold on for a second, I'm on my hamburger phone." Juno
Yes, Juno could get tiresome. And yeah, I think the hamburger phone gag is too twee for words. But something needs to replace the quacking duck phone that Snooki and JWoww are so partial to.
What other movie quotes need to make the transition into memes?

Qualities that make the movie Titanic awesome
The other day, my husband said, "Titanic was a really good movie until the boat started to sink." He explained that the handcuffing and stress and insane Billy Zane were over-the-top stressful. But here's why I think the film deserves a special place in cinematic history.
Educational about deep sea exploration/treasure recovery. Now I know that it takes a lot of robots to uncover history beneath the sea, and also to never look for treasure in the obvious places.
Kate Winslett's boobies. Cheers for a somewhat curvaceous babe showing skin for a change.
My Heart Will Go On theme song. Because anything that gives Celine Dion an excuse to showcase her full and fabulous vocal range is all right with me. And also the way she beats her chest ferociously whenever she says "heart."
Respect for elders and the art of circuitous storytelling. The 132-year-old Rose kept the crew riveted with her sharp-as-nails historical-personal yarn for upwards of five hours.
A full life is worth more than a diamond the size of your fist. That settles it: The first chance I get, I'm casting this multimillion dollar jewel I've been holding onto into the ocean.
What do you think? Does the best picture winner of 1997 move you to tears of adoration or despair?

Movies That Never Fail To Make Me Weep
One of the great pleasures of art is that it allows us to experience the full range of human emotion without ever exposing ourself to potential risks. And as a dude whose emotional boundaries come equipped with serious-firepower border control, I appreciate the opportunity to, every once in a while, settle in for a good, long weep. Here are a few films that never fail to do the trick.
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind: I always start crying seventeen minutes in. And generally stop by sometime the following Tuesday.
The Godfather: It's not the best '70s gangster movie -- it's not even my favorite -- but the beautifully choreographed last half-hour reduces me to tears every single time. It's friggin' opera with bullets instead of words.
50 First Dates: Confession: I've actually cried at kind of a lot of Adam Sandler movies. And not just from how awful they are.
Love Story: If you walk anywhere within twenty feet of me while I'm watching this, your shirt's getting covered with snot and mascara and you're just going to have to like it. After all, Love Story means never having to say you're sorry.
Cool Runnings: They lull you in with the laughter, and then -- oh frig, I can't even talk about it.
What movies make you want to buy stock in Kleenex? And, so it doesn't keep you up at night, my official Adam Sandler cry-count: The Wedding Singer, Mr. Deeds, Spanglish, and Big Daddy (twice). Should I -- should I see a doctor about this?

Questions I'd ask someone famous if I ever met a celebrity and had the balls to do it
I've seen a few celebrities in my time, even up-close, but I've never spoken to one. There are quite a few things I'd like to ask if the planets aligned to give me the opportunity and the nerve all at the same time. Oh, and I'd also hope for a magical truth serum to actually get some real answers to boot.
Are you kidding me with the drunken driving? So not every celebrity does this, but many have. And I just have to know, if you have that much money, why not hire a permanent DD? Am I right??
At what point does your wealth become unruly? Like, when did you hire a financial team to keep track of all your many millions in assets?
How much time do you actually spend on personal grooming? Waxing, threading, fake tanning, spa days, shopping, mani-pedis, hair cuts and colors, gosh I'm getting exhausted just listing it.
Can you give an accurate count of how many other celebrities you've done the nasty with? Because if the tabloids are even close, Hollywood is soap-opera incestuous.
How much plastic surgery and food deprivation is necessary to maintain your figure? Self-explanatory.
What would you want to know?

Ways I've Almost Totally Died, For Reals
Wire stuck in eye--When I was eight, I was playing with a fragment of old electrical wire (yeah, don't ask) and I swung it around in a big circle. Out of nowhere, I swung it right in my face, and the frayed end of the wires got stuck right on my eyelid. OK, so maybe I didn't almost die, but it was definitely a moment of utter terror.
Deer jumped on car--This really happened to me, and it was super scary, because I was going like, 75 on the freeway, and these deer were stuck in the median and couldn't get out with all the traffic. One of them panicked and literally jumped on top of my speeding car. It was awful, for both myself, my car, and the poor deer.
Forced to watch second Twilight movie in theatre--Meehhhh, maybe I didn't physically die, but my brain sure did give up its little brainy ghost.
Ran red light at busy intersection while checking self out in rear view mirror--Dudes, I looked super hot that day, what can I say?
As a child, forced to eat cold zucchini for breakfast--Yeah, my parents had the rule, "If you don't eat it for dinner, you'll eat it for breakfast." Those crazy adults were NOT playing around.

Really cool movies you may not have seen
I've been a movie fanatic for years, but lately I've come across a few fairly recent but highly under-publicized Movies That Could Change Your Life.
The Flying Scotsman. A bipolar Scottish cyclist goes for a world-record on a bike made of old washing machine parts. So. Good.
In America. A contemporary Irish family emigrates to New York. At the end I asked Noah, through tears, "Are you crying too?" His response: "No [sob]!"
Music Within. My uncle has cerebral palsy, and Michael Sheen absolutely rocked my face off as a man with cerebral palsy. In my opinion, he outdid Daniel Day Lewis in My Left Foot. Oh, and Ron Livingston = Also Amazing.
Before Sunset. Apparently this is a sequel to Before Sunrise, but dude you can watch this as a standalone work of dialogue genius.
Once. This actually won an Oscar for best song in 2006, but I didn't see it until last year. It's been called the best music film of our generation, and I believe it.
Any hidden gems you'd like to share?

5 Items I'd Save in a Disaster
1. My animals--One of my cats would be super resourceful in the event of the earth cracking to bits. But the other two? Well, one would be swallowed up while waiting by his food bowl, while the other would cuddle close to the lava spewing from the ground because it's warmer there.
2. My old baby blanket--Yes, I still have it. It's kept away in a box with a few other childhood keepsakes, but I'd dig it out because a) it's really soft and warm and b) it could be used as clothing if necessary and c) I'll need something to calm me down after the earth is destroyed.
3. A pair of sensible shoes--If there's one thing you can count on when the world is blow to bits by itself, it's that there will definitely be uneven terrain. Cute spectator heels will not do in this situation.
4. My great-great-great Grandmother's pig cookie jar--What...it's been in the family for generations, and my grandmother gave it to me because she knew I'd take care of it. And, if I'm lucky, it'll actually have cookies in it, which I can sell at exorbitant prices or trade for other goods like socks to wear with my sensible shoes.
5. A notebook and pen--I'm pretty sure laptops and phones won't work, so I'd blog using paper and pen. One copy...and then my readers could pass it around. Links will take awhile to load...sorry.

So Bad It's Good--Movie Edition
Steven Seagal in URBAN JUSTICE! (must be said with RAISED FIST!)--Did you all know that Steven Seagal writes, produces, directs and stars in his own movies? Like two or three a year? And they're all completely and utterly horrible (but awesome)? In this movie, Steven Seagal and Eddie Griffin are doing something the ghetto. I'm not real sure what exactly they're doing, but Steven does his best to be a hard-ass and offend every cultural group in existence. The problem is, he's so bad at being offensive, that it just ends up being hilarious. Yay for Steven Seagal movie nights!
Hot Rod--Andy Samberg's Evil Knieval like movie is a mish-mash of weird humor ("cool beans!") 80's forest-dance-fight sequences, and Samberg's trademark WTF-is-happening? moments. Loved every minute.
The Brothers Solomon--Will Forte and Will Arnett make up the Brothers Solomon, and they're the biggest idiots you can possibly imagine. They decide to fulfill their father's dying wish to have grandchildren, well, with having children. Did I mention they're idiots? Such bad/goodness.
Yor, Hunter from the Future--Here's the line from the poster: "He is from a future world, trapped in prehistoric times, searching for his past." Poor guy! Must be rough. Yes, it's one of those half-prehistoric, half-futuristic crazy movies from the 80's that features terrible dialogue, laughable special effects, and of course, lots and lots of gratuitous nudity. Awesome.
Any movie from our childhoods that we'd watch on endless loop (hello, Karate Kid!)

My Favorite Embarrassing Movies
1. The Lizzie McGuire Movie
I swear I tear up a bit when she sings at the end on stage in Rome. Ithink I actually saw this in the theatres. Oh dear.
2. Center Stage
I'm almost not even embarrassed by this one. Sure the acting's bad,but the dancing is terrific!
3. Au Pair 1 & 2
These are probably the worst in the pacl. They're MADE FOR TV forcrying out loud!
4. Avonlea: Season One
I love a good moral of the story with a Canadian accent.
5. What A Girl Wants
I can't help it! I think Amanda Bynes is sweet!
