Best Fictional Couples Ever

Now that it's the month of Over-Wrought Romantic Pronouncements, let's all have a think about those couples that bring tears to our eyes and inferiority complexes to our hearts. I bet Gomez never bought Morticia a subscription to Consumer Reports for her birthday!

Lizzy Bennet and Mr. Darcy
Of course. Of course! The passion! The matching of wits! His quietly smoldering love for her and her sweet snarkiness. Also: who doesn't want to make out with Colin Firth?

Morticia and Gomez Adams
Sure, they're creepy and kooky and altogether ooky, but damn it if they're not total BFFs who also happen to have the hots for each other. They work together as a team whether they're facing off against impostor relatives or gold-digging girlfriends. So.damn.cute.

Robert Kincaid and Francesca Johnson
If your heart didn't break a little when you read your mom's copy of The Bridges of Madison County, you are dead on the inside. A transplanted Italian farm wife yearning for more than her stolid husband can provide and a quiet, free-spirited photographer? Oh my, be still my heart.

Frances 'Baby' Houseman and Johnny
M.A. thesises have probably been written on exactly why we all love this couple so much. She's sweet, smart and not the traditional hottie. He's dead sexy and misunderstood. And somehow together they work. Nobody puts Baby in a corner, indeed!

Who are your favorite fictional couples?

Jim & Pam hands down just meant to be from the start!

Oh man, I'm rereading "Gone With The Wind" now and I've got to say, no couple makes my heart race quite as fast as Scarlett and Rhett. They're so brash and confident and badly out of sync with each other. I might be tearing up a little just thinking about it...

I also always loved -- don't mock me, now -- Roseanne and Dan Conner. Okay, they're not glamorous or romantic, but they're best friends and they stick by each other and keep a sense of humor no matter how obnoxious life is. Plus, big ups to any TV show showing (gasp!) overweight people over 40 enjoying a healthy, playful sex life.

Have you seen the movie Benny and Joon? It's so adorable... Sam the lovable misfit falls in love with Joon, an amazing artist with a mental disorder. Plus Johnny Depp plays Sam! Ah! It's wonderful!
I'd say Jack and Rose, if she didn't drop him in the water... Bitch! I'd drag Leonardo DiCaprio's corpse all the way to shore if I had to! :)

Oh yes Morticia & Gomez are one of my ultimate faves!! Carrie & Mr. Big too are up there as well. =)

@That Kind of Girl:
Rhett and Scarlett make my little heart race, too! The love! The passion! The reality of sometimes hating the person we love! Being blind to just how awesome your partner is and how much you really love each other! Ahh!
Give me Rhett over Mr. Darcy any day!

Morticia and Gomez FTW!

I kind of loved Kiera Knightley and Matthew Macfadyen in the last version of P&P.

There are so many other great couples, but I'm having a total brain freeze right now =(

One of my favs though is Cora/Hawkeye & Alice/Uncas (even though it was tragic and one the screen for 5 seconds) from Last of the Mohicans

@That Kind of Girl
I agree. Rhett and Scarlett are my favorite fictional couple. So much passion! And I see what you mean about Rosanne & Dan. I sincerely hope that I stay besties with my husband until we're old.
@Literary Crap
I agree! Rhett is way more my speed than proper & boring Mr. Darcy.

Also, I love Jamie & Claire from the Outlander Series. Not exactly literary, but so great.

Sorry, but Mr Darcy is portrayed by Matthew MacFadyen and NOT Collin Firth!

Mulan and the General's son Fa Li.

She's quirky and passionate, he's professional and compassionate.
Cuties!

Oh shit, but this is not supposed to be cartoons, that's a whole 'nother can of worms.

@Anonymous
They've both played Mr. Darcy.
Colin Firth was in the BBC miniseries.
Matthew MacFayden was in the theatrical film.

Lord Peter Wimsey and Harriet Vane. Gaudy Night FTW!

Darcy and Lizzy, nothing! North and South by Elizabeth Gaskell is more full of pride and prejudice than the other one. And Mr Thornton is a billion times sexier than Mr Fancy-britches Darcy.
He's madly in love with Mary for most of the book despite the fact she thinks she's above him, and possibly has a secret fella. He even sets up schools and co-operatives for his mill workers for her. How romantic is that! And she saves him from rioting union people.

The BBC version has Richard Armitage in it, which is all that needs to be said really.

Tina & Bette y'all!! Tibette! C'mon. Greatest couple ever? Yeah.

I have to go with Miss Marianne Dashwood and Col. Christopher Brandon. Sure, Marianne's heart raced whenever she heard mention of the name "Willoughby," but she was destined to marry the ultimate gentleman who would adore her all of her days. *sigh*

NOBODY puts Baby in a corner! Probably my favorite fictional couple ever.

Except for Joey and Pacey.

Or Sookie and Bill.

Or...or...yeah.

Arwen Evenstar and Aragorn from Lord of the Rings! They are adorable and romantic, and I am an obsessive Lord of the Rings fan.

"Nobody puts baby in a corner indeed."

This was a great idea for a list.

Ohhh. Justin Taylor and Brian Kinney from QaF. I have hardly been in love with a couple.

And Buffy and Spike. I didn't mean to bring the vampires but really... those two!
