Great things about England!
England may be a small, damp country, but right now I don't think I could live anywhere else. Here's why I love it so much!
- The Rain - yes, the first thing most people complain about but it has its charms! Listening to the rain drumming against the window on a warm summer night is one of my favourite ways to relax, and when we do get a hot, sunny day we appreciate it so much!
- The Food - Fish and chips, Cadburys chocolate, roast dinners, treacle sponge and custard, all washed down with a pint of real ale. British food may not be the healthiest, but it's so satisfying!
- Our History - It makes it so easy to be a tourist in one's own country! Visiting castles never gets old! (no pun intended)
- The size - No matter where you need to get to, it's less than a day away, and you're almost always just a few hours at the most from a beach!
- British Comedy - it's the best! Nothing beats Fry and Laurie, Red Dwarf (though the new episodes weren't that great), Monty Python etc.
- Bank Holidays - Paid days off work for no apparent reason? Yes please!
What do you enjoy most about your country?

Things I Was Taught as a Child
Anyway, I grew up as the daughter of a Baptist minister, and I’d like to share a few of the things I learned in what I feel was a very loving, albeit incredibly sheltered and backwards, home. I was taught:
A girl’s body is a temple. A temple that should never ever be near a boy, or a boy’s penis, at least until she is married, and then she should only get near said penis when the time came to procreate.
Dancing is for married couples to participate in within the privacy of their own home.
Singing is best when done loudly with organ music.
Morality cuts off at the knee. Dresses below the knee are modest. Dresses above the knee are decidedly slutty.
Sexual content on the television or in the movies should be greeted with general panic and anxiety. An added, “Honey! Where’s the remote?! WHO HAS THE REMOTE?!” by my father, while he leaps from the couch, is usually a good addition to the situation
Broadway is a wicked place and you should never want to go there. At least, this is what my mother told me when I told her I wanted to be an actor. I was eight.
Crazy women fall in love with clergy. My dad always had all the crazies just “stopping by” to say hello, at which point, he’d say, “Oh…hi! Let me get my wife,” and pawn them off on my less-than-sympathetic mother.
Brothers and sisters are built in best friends. Arguments amongst siblings were not tolerated. I hope to teach this same lesson to my children, should my uterus betray me after all these years.
“Shut up” is a mean thing to say when you say it for real.
It doesn’t matter where you come from, it’s where you end up. My ending is drastically different than what my parents hoped, but I can’t regret my past or the things that I look back on and find to be silly or close-minded. I am who I am because of…and in spite of…my childhood.

Things I´ve Bought That I Love
photo- Clinique Pore Minimizer Instant Perfector: Or as I like to call it ¨Robot Face¨ because when I use this magical, magical stuff I look like a cross between a Botticelli-clam-shell-stander and those weird human robots from A-I.
- Lint Eating Machine; Do you have any Virgos in your life? Because they will love you forever if you get them one of these. And while you´re at it, get one for yourself. It will rejuvinate your favorite sweater and allow you to buy all those cute, pilly cardigans at the Salvation Army.
- Black Harem Pants: I bought mine in 2006 from a street vendor in Italy. Half as a joke and half as sleeping gear for the train. So no one was more surprised that me when I found myself wearing them every blessed day of the last three summers. Because they´re comfy! And match everything! And vaguely weird/fashion forward without being totally ridiculous! Just somewhat ridiculous.
- IKEA Poang Chair: I know, I know. IKEA furniture is nigh on disposable. But this chair is so insanely comfortable! And it doesn´t burn my retinas the way Eazyboys do. And it costs less than one paycheck.
- Dr. Scholl´s Massaging Gel Insoles: I have the feet of a Jane Austen heroine - thin and pale and ridiculously high arched. And yet I will insist on buying $11 novelty ballet flats from Target. To make up for this, I buy a pair of these insoles and tuck them into every blessed pair of shoes that I have. So great! I am, indeed, gellin´.
What about you? What purchases have you made that are worth their weight in gold?
P.S. This list is inspired by the fantastic and hilarious blog Things I Bought That I Love. It´s now defunct, but I promise, you´ll want to read through every single post. It´s written by Kelly Kipoor from The Office!

Things That Really Grind My Gears
I like to think that I'm a fairly calm and easy-going person, but there are some things that really grind my gears:
- Shops that don't display prices (usually because they are way overpriced)
- Inconsiderate drivers, especially if they drive too slow, tailgate, or indicate for three blocks before finally turning
- Blunt kitchen knives
- When people get angry with me for throwing out expired food or medicine (even if it is over 15 years old...)
- If someone gets too much margarine and wipes the remainder back in the container even though it's covered with crumbs

My Favorite Candies
Eyeliah of www.StyleSymmetry.com is a West Coast Canadian Girl who likes to blog her outfit posts daily and post favorite inspirations she finds on the web. She is obsessive with her list making so was obviously compelled to contribute to List Addicts.
Okay, so please say I am not the only one addicted to uber-sweet treats? It's the perfect thing to eat right before bed to keep you up (hello sugar) and also give you nightmares! They make your teeth sore and your dentist mad, but it is so worth it!
A few of my favorites are....
- Tootsie Pops
- Rocket Candies
- Popeye Candy Sticks
- Super Nibs
- Double Lollies
What are your favorites?

Things I Never Thought I'd Do (And Did!)
Sometimes we surprise everyone - including ourselves! Below is a list of things that I once thought I would never, ever do. And yet here I am, 26.5 years old and the proud of accomplish-er of all them. Kind of makes me wonder what I'll have done, where I'll have gone, in another three, five or ten years. The possibilities are endless...
1. Become a person who regularly runs 6 miles at a time and is training for a half marathon. (In 2nd grade, I was in remedial gym. I've come a long way, baby.)
2. Go completely vegan. (My parents don't believe a meal is complete unless it includes meat. Quite a hurdle to overcome.)
3. Be a librarian. (Mom suggested to become a librarian, and I laughed in her face. Now I think it's once of the coolest professions around.)
4. Live in Texas. (I'm a New Yorker born and raised, but when Texas came calling I had to answer.)
5. Become friends with my sisters. (We fought tooth and nail growing up. Now we hang out together every chance we get, which isn't nearly as often as I'd like.)
Now it's your turn - how have you surprised yourself?

- The Princess Bride
- Super Troopers
- Jurassic Park
- Lord of the Rings: Return of the King
- Independence Day
- The Last Unicorn
- Anchorman
- The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe (old BBC version)

Names for My Imaginary Children
We all think about this a little bit, right? Even if we have no intention of every procreating, it's fun to imagine the perfect moniker for our tiny minions, eh?
Being the typical Minnesota mix of Norwegian/Swedish/German, with a last name to match, I believe this is a valid excuse for an awesomely matching ethnic first name to saddle my babies with. On my list
- Greta
- Elsie
- Annetta
- Mahrin
- Simon
- Sorin
- Oscar
- Henry
- Calvin
